How to Travel from Mexico to Morocco: Flights, Requirements and Budget
No visa, one stop in Europe and a budget that is more reasonable than you think: this is how a trip from Mexico to Morocco is organized.
Traveling from Mexico to Morocco sounds like an expedition, but in practice it is simpler than going to many destinations in Asia: Mexicans enter without a visa as tourists, there are daily connections through Madrid, Paris and other European cities, and from there Morocco is only two or three hours away by plane.
This guide brings together what you need to plan the whole trip: entry requirements, how to get there, how long it takes, how much budget to set aside and what route to follow once you land. If you want to dig into any point, you will find links to more detailed guides at the end.
Entry requirements for Mexicans
With an ordinary Mexican passport you can stay in Morocco for up to 90 days as a tourist without applying for a visa. What you will be asked for when traveling:
- Valid passport. It is advisable (and many airlines require it) that it has at least six months of validity on arrival and blank pages for the stamps.
- Ticket out of Morocco or onward travel.
- Details of your accommodation for the first nights (name and address of the hotel or riad) for the entry card.
- Sufficient funds for your stay, in case they are requested at the border.
We explain each point, with examples, in our guides on whether Mexicans need a visa and the documents you need to carry.
Getting there: flights from Mexico to Morocco
At the time of writing there is no direct flight between Mexico and Morocco (we analyze it in Are there direct flights from Mexico to Morocco?), so the trip is made with one stop. The most common combinations are:
| Route | Typical layover | Approximate total time |
|---|---|---|
| Mexico City → Madrid → Marrakech or Casablanca | Madrid (Iberia, Aeroméxico, Air Europa and others, depending on the season) | 16 to 20 h |
| Mexico City → Paris → Marrakech or Casablanca | Paris (Air France, Aeroméxico) | 17 to 21 h |
| Mexico City → Istanbul → Casablanca or Marrakech | Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) | 19 to 24 h |
| Mexico City → Miami or New York → Casablanca | Layover in the US with Royal Air Maroc; requires a US visa or authorization | 15 to 20 h |
In most cases the most convenient option is Madrid: there are many flights a day to Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier and Agadir, and a single ticket is usually cheaper than combining flights separately. To compare routes calmly, see the best route to travel from Mexico to Morocco.
How long the trip takes and the time difference
The straight-line distance from Mexico City to Casablanca is around 9,000 km. With one stop, count on a full day of travel: you leave in the afternoon and land the next morning local time. Morocco is seven hours ahead of Mexico City (six during Ramadan, when the country sets its clock back an hour). Land calmly: it is best to plan the first day lightly. You will find the details in how many hours is the flight from Mexico to Morocco.
Budget: how much to set aside for the trip
The flight is usually the biggest expense, and once in Morocco the cost of living is moderate. As a reference (it varies a lot with the season and how far ahead you book):
- Round-trip flight from Mexico: between 15,000 and 30,000 MXN on most dates, with peaks at Holy Week, summer and December.
- Accommodation: a mid-range riad or hotel usually runs between 1,200 and 3,000 MXN per night; there are cheaper and luxury options too.
- Meals: a local lunch is cheap; dinner at a tourist restaurant costs quite a bit more.
- Transport and private guide: this is where the difference between traveling on your own and taking an organized tour shows most.

What route to take once in Morocco
If it is your first trip, the most balanced option is a route of 8 to 10 days that combines imperial cities, mountains and desert:
- 5 to 6 days: Marrakech, the High Atlas and a night in the Merzouga desert. See the 6-day desert tour from Marrakech.
- 8 to 10 days: add Fes, Chefchaouen or Casablanca. A good base is the 10-day tour of Morocco.
- Short on time: the 3-day tour from Marrakech to the desert gives you the essentials.
All our tours are private and can be adjusted to your dates and pace.
Best time to travel from Mexico
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to tour the country: pleasant temperatures in the cities and a passable desert. In summer the desert easily exceeds 40 °C; in winter the nights in the desert and the Atlas are cold, although the days are usually sunny. If your vacation coincides with Holy Week or the end-of-year holidays, book early: these are high-demand dates.
