What Documents Do I Need to Travel from Mexico to Morocco
A clear list of the essentials, the recommended and what is worth having at hand digitally before leaving.
To travel from Mexico to Morocco you only need a valid passport: no visa is required for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Even so, it is worth carrying a few additional documents that may be requested at the airport or at border control.
Essential documents
- Valid ordinary Mexican passport, with at least six months of validity from the date of entry (the recommendation many airlines apply) and blank pages for stamps. The INE voter ID or a driver's license do not serve as identification to cross.
- Ticket out of Morocco or onward travel, which some airlines check before letting you board.
- Entry card: a short form that is usually handed out on the plane or at the border. It asks for an accommodation address.
- Accommodation details: name, address and phone number of your hotel or riad for the first nights.
Highly recommended documents
- Travel insurance with medical coverage and repatriation. It is not mandatory, but private medical care for foreigners can be expensive.
- Flight and accommodation reservations, digital and on paper.
- International credit or debit cards, telling your bank that you are traveling, and some cash in euros or dollars.
- Passport copies, on paper and in the cloud, kept separately from the original.
- Emergency contact details and those of the Mexican embassy in Morocco.
If you travel with minors
- Each minor needs their own valid passport.
- If they travel with only one parent, with third parties or alone, check the authorization documents requested by the Mexican authorities and the airline, such as a signed consent letter and, in some cases, a notarized one.
- Bring the birth certificate, useful to prove the family relationship if requested.
If you are going to rent a car
Carry your valid driver's license and, if you want to avoid doubts with the authorities, an international driving permit. Driving in Morocco requires experience, especially in cities and mountains; many travelers prefer to hire a driver.
Health and vaccinations
Morocco does not require mandatory vaccinations for travelers from Mexico, but it is advisable to consult a travel doctor about recommended immunizations and carry your usual medicines in their original packaging, together with the prescription if they are controlled.
What happens at the layover in Europe
Mexicans do not need a Schengen visa for short stays, but check whether the EU's ETIAS system is already required and whether it applies to your layover. Keep your onward ticket and passport at hand throughout the connection.
How to organize your documents
- Keep your passport and tickets in an easy-to-reach travel pouch.
- Email yourself a PDF with the whole document package.
- Leave a copy with a trusted relative in Mexico.
