6 Day in Morocco tour from Marrakech

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

After pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech, we head for the imposing High Atlas. We cross the Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass, the highest in North Africa, with stops to capture the panoramic views.

Our first major destination is the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a World Heritage Site and the setting for films such as Gladiator. After lunch at a restaurant with a view, we continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley, famous for its spectacular gorges. We spend the night at a cosy hotel in the area.

Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

The morning brings one of the most impressive landscapes: the Todra Gorges, where rock walls rise up to 300 metres on both sides of the river. After a walk and lunch in the area, we head for the desert. The scenery gradually changes until the first dunes of Merzouga come into view.

Here you swap the car for a noble camel and set off on a sunset ride into the heart of Erg Chebbi. The night awaits at a luxury tented camp, where you enjoy a traditional Berber dinner under an endless blanket of stars, to the rhythm of drums.

Nomad Life in the Merzouga Desert

Waking up in the Sahara is a unique experience. You can climb the highest dune to watch the sunrise before breakfast at the camp. You then return to Merzouga to begin a private 4×4 tour of the surroundings.

We visit the oasis and Lake Dayet Srji (season permitting), the black fossil mines and the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnawa community and music. The experience ends with a visit and a cup of tea in a nomad family’s tent. The afternoon is free to relax or try optional activities before spending the night at a comfortable hotel/riad in Merzouga.

Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Azrou - Ifran - Fez

Today we leave the desert heading north. We stop in Rissani, a former starting point for caravans, to visit its bustling souk (if it is market day). We cross the vast palm grove of the Ziz Valley and climb towards Midelt, in the foothills of the Middle Atlas, where we have lunch.

In the afternoon the landscape changes completely as we pass through the Azrou cedar forest (with luck we will see monkeys) and the Alpine town of Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco”. We reach Fes, the oldest of the Imperial Cities, in the late afternoon. You spend the night in a traditional riad in the heart of its medina.

Full Guided Visit to the Medina of Fez

Today you immerse yourself in the most fascinating historical and cultural labyrinth in the Arab world. With an official local guide you explore the Fez el-Bali medina, a World Heritage Site. You walk its timeless streets, visit the emblematic Bou Inania and Attarine madrasas, watch from a terrace the spectacular work at the traditional Chouwara tanneries and see the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, considered the oldest continuously operating university in the world. Lunch is at a typical restaurant inside the medina. The afternoon is free to explore on your own or shop before your last night in Fez.

Fez – Departure Transfer

After breakfast at the riad, you have free time for a last stroll or any final shopping. Depending on your departure time, we take you to Fes airport or the train station, bringing this unforgettable journey through the soul of Morocco to an end.
