How to Travel from Colombia to Morocco: Complete Guide
No visa for short stays, good connections from Bogotá and a culture that surprises: a practical guide for Colombian travelers.
For a Colombian, Morocco is closer than it seems: you do not need a visa for a tourist stay, Bogotá connects with Madrid almost daily and, once you land in Spain, the hop to Marrakech or Casablanca takes only a couple of hours.
Do Colombians need a visa to enter Morocco?
Colombian citizens with an ordinary passport can enter Morocco without a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Even so, make sure you carry:
- A valid passport (at least six months of validity and blank pages are recommended).
- A ticket out of the country or onward travel.
- A reservation or address for your accommodation for the first nights.
- Travel insurance with medical coverage: not required to enter, but strongly recommended.
Because Colombia has areas at risk of yellow fever, it is wise to check with the Moroccan consulate or your health provider whether, at the date of your trip, you will be asked for any health certificate. Keep your vaccination record up to date.
If you have a layover in the Schengen area (for example, in Madrid), Colombians do not need a visa for short stays. The European Union is preparing the ETIAS electronic travel authorization system (start expected at the end of 2026); check its official website before buying your flights to find out whether it is already required for your layover.
Flights from Colombia to Morocco
There is currently no direct flight between Colombia and Morocco, so you will have to make a stop. The most practical options are:
| Departure | Usual layover | Approximate total time |
|---|---|---|
| Bogotá | Madrid (Avianca, Iberia, Air Europa) and a connection to Marrakech, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier or Agadir | 14 to 18 h |
| Bogotá | Paris or Amsterdam and a connection to Morocco | 16 to 20 h |
| Medellín, Cali, Cartagena | Bogotá or Madrid, depending on the airline | 17 to 22 h |
| Bogotá | Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) and a connection to Casablanca or Marrakech | 19 to 24 h |
The transatlantic leg Bogotá–Madrid takes about 10 hours, and Madrid–Marrakech or Madrid–Casablanca about two and a half hours. The straight-line distance between Bogotá and Casablanca is around 7,500 km. Routes, airlines and frequencies change every season. Treat this as a planning guide and confirm schedules and prices in your flight search engine before buying.
Time difference and travel fatigue
Morocco is six hours ahead of Colombia (five during Ramadan). It is a manageable change: you adapt after a night's sleep. If you fly overnight to Madrid, try to sleep on the plane and plan your first day in Morocco with gentle activities, such as a stroll through the medina.
Estimated budget from Colombia
- Round-trip flight: roughly between 900 and 1,500 USD depending on the season and how far ahead you book, with peaks at Holy Week, mid-year and December.
- Mid-range accommodation (riad or 3-4 star hotel): about 50 to 120 USD per night in a double room.
- Private tour day: depends on group size and itinerary; the easiest way is to ask for a tailor-made quote.
Remember that most of the cost is the flight: the more days you spend in the country, the better value the trip will be. That is why we recommend a minimum of 8 days.
When to travel as a Colombian
Public-holiday long weekends and Holy Week fill the flights, so book several months ahead. For the weather, spring or autumn is ideal; if your vacation is mid-year, keep in mind that the heat in the Merzouga desert in July and August is intense and it is best to concentrate excursions at sunrise and sunset.
Recommended route for a first trip
- 3 days from Marrakech to the desert, if you have little time.
- 6 days through the desert from Marrakech to Fes, crossing the Atlas, the kasbahs and Merzouga.
- 12 days in Morocco from Casablanca, to see the country at an easy pace.
You can combine any of them with a tailor-made extension; write to us and we will design it as a tailor-made trip.
Practical tips for Colombians
- Money: the currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Colombian pesos are not accepted or easily exchanged; carry euros or dollars in cash or withdraw dirhams from ATMs with your card.
- Language: Arabic and French are spoken, and in tourist areas there is quite a lot of Spanish, especially in the north of the country.
- Plugs: they use type C/E at 220 V; bring an adapter.
- Clothing: you do not need to cover up completely, but modest clothing is appreciated in the medinas and rural areas.
