How to Travel from Chile to Morocco: Everything You Need to Know
No visa, a long but well-connected flight from Santiago and a climate that complements ours: the guide for Chilean travelers.
Chile and Morocco are separated by almost 10,000 kilometers, but the trip is more manageable than it seems: with a single stop in Madrid you can go from the Andes to the dunes of the Sahara in little more than a day.
Do I need a visa as a Chilean?
Chilean citizens with an ordinary passport can stay in Morocco for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism. Prepare these documents:
- A passport with at least six months of recommended validity and blank pages.
- A ticket out of Morocco or onward travel.
- Your accommodation details to complete the entry card.
- Travel insurance with medical assistance, even if it is not mandatory.
For the layover in Europe, Chileans do not need a visa for short stays in the Schengen area. The EU is preparing the ETIAS system (start expected at the end of 2026); check its official website to find out whether it is already required when you go to buy your tickets.
Getting from Santiago to Morocco
| Route | Details | Approximate total time |
|---|---|---|
| Santiago → Madrid → Marrakech or Casablanca | LATAM or Iberia to Madrid and then a short flight to Morocco | 18 to 23 h |
| Santiago → São Paulo → Casablanca | Connection in Brazil and a direct Royal Air Maroc flight, depending on frequencies | 20 to 26 h |
| Santiago → Paris or Amsterdam → Morocco | European airlines with an additional connection | 20 to 25 h |
The Santiago–Madrid leg takes about 13 and a half hours. Santiago is about 9,900 km from Casablanca. Routes, airlines and frequencies change every season. Treat this as a planning guide and confirm schedules and prices in your flight search engine before buying.
Time difference with Morocco
The difference varies with Chile's daylight saving time: Morocco is four to five hours ahead (one less during Ramadan). On the overnight flight from Santiago you will reach Madrid in the morning; use the connection to stretch your legs and rest.
When to travel from Chile
- January and February (summer vacation): Moroccan winter, with sunny, moderate days in Marrakech and the desert, and cold nights. It is a good time for the Sahara.
- July (winter vacation): full summer in Morocco, with intense heat inland.
- Fiestas Patrias in September: late September offers excellent weather, although it is best to book flights early.
- March to May and October to November: probably the best seasons for temperature.
Estimated budget
As a reference, a round-trip flight from Santiago can cost between 1,100 and 1,800 USD, with strong variations depending on the season. At the destination, count on about 50 to 120 USD per night in a mid-range riad or hotel, plus meals and excursions. Given the cost of the ticket, the trip should last between 8 and 12 days.
Recommended route
- 4 days through the desert from Marrakech, the classic between the Atlas and Merzouga.
- 8 days from Fes to the desert, to add the Fes medina and the imperial cities.
- 14 days in Morocco from Casablanca, the complete trip for those who travel far.
