Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

The adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech, climbing the scenic curves of the High Atlas Mountains. You cross the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres, with chances to take panoramic photographs. The day continues south to visit the famous kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified adobe town listed by UNESCO and the setting for countless films. After lunch in the village, you visit Ouarzazate, known as “the gateway to the desert”, and its film studios. The day ends with the journey along the “route of a thousand kasbahs” to the Dades Valley, where you spend the night in a characterful hotel or riad.

Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

After breakfast you explore the singular landscape of the Dades Valley, known for its rock formations and palm groves. The route continues to the imposing Todra Gorge, a canyon whose vertical walls rise up to 300 metres, perfect for a walk. After lunch in the area, the road heads into the Sahara, passing the towns of Erfoud and Rissani. On reaching the gates of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga, you swap the vehicle for camels and take a calm sunset ride into the heart of the golden dunes. The night is spent in a traditional Berber camp, with dinner under the stars and the sound of drums.

Merzouga – Erg Chebbi area – night in the desert

An early start is recommended to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp you ride the camels back to the village of Merzouga. The day is devoted to exploring the surroundings of the Erg Chebbi desert, including a visit to a nomad settlement to understand their way of life, a tour of the fossil dunes and a stop in the village of Khamlia to enjoy spiritual Gnawa music. In the afternoon there is free time to rest or take an optional second ride across the dunes. The night can be a second one at the camp or in a hotel on the edge of the desert.

Merzouga - Rissani - Midelt - Boulaajoul

You leave the desert behind after breakfast. The first stop is Rissani, an important historic and trading centre, where you can visit its famous traditional souk (on market days). The journey continues north through the vast palm grove of the Ziz valley. Lunch is in Midelt, set between the High and Middle Atlas and known for its apples and minerals. In the afternoon the road continues to the Boulaajoul region, with a stop to take in the landscape as it shifts from desert to mountain. Dinner and accommodation are at a typical guesthouse in the Boulaajoul area.

Boulaajoul - Azrou - Ifrane - Fez

After breakfast the journey to Fez begins. The route winds through the Middle Atlas Mountains. A stop is made in the cedar forest of Azrou, a cool, quiet place where troops of Barbary macaques are commonly seen. Next comes the singular town of Ifrane, nicknamed “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture, fountains and spotless streets. After lunch in the area the drive continues, arriving in the afternoon in the imperial city of Fez. Dinner and accommodation are in a riad inside its ancient, labyrinthine medina.

Fez - Chefchaouen - Tanger

The last day of the tour begins with the journey north, leaving Fez for the Rif Mountains. The destination is fascinating Chefchaouen, the “blue city”, whose streets, stairways and buildings are painted in varied, calming shades of indigo. There is free time to explore its medina, known for its peaceful atmosphere and craft shops. After lunch you set off on the final stretch to the coast. The tour concludes on arrival in the port city of Tangier, gateway to the Strait of Gibraltar. The service ends with the transfer to the port, airport or your accommodation in the city.
